BANK HOLIDAY CHARITY FUND-RAISING

FUNDS are being raised for the Tees Valley Daisy Chain charity at Redcar Racecourse’s popular Bank Holiday horse racing fixture on Monday (30 MAY).

Volunteers from the Norton-based group that addresses the needs of children with autism won’t be difficult to spot – they’ll be the ones in super hero fancy dress outfits.

Throughout Monday, visitors to the racecourse will be able to buy £2 raffle tickets – and be in with a chance to win a Fiat 500 car. The draw will take place on 25 October. Ninety-seven per cent of the money raised goes directly to Daisy Chain.

The two-day horse racing meeting on Monday and Tuesday coincides with the school half-term holidays, so both days will be popular with families, especially as accompanied under 16s are admitted free of charge to the racecourse.

On the opening day, the showpiece event of the spring at the Tees Valley racecourse will be run – the Totepool Zetland Gold Cup. Lots of family entertainment is being laid on too, including bouncy castles, slides and face painters.

The racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair said: “We’re thrilled to be doing our bit to help our local Daisy Chain charity. I am sure that our visitors will be very generous to a wonderful cause.”

As an added bonus on Bank Holiday Monday, former jockey Jimmy Bleasdale will be conducting behind-the-scenes tours of the racecourse.

The first race of six on Monday 30 May is scheduled for 2.25pm, with admission gates open from midday. The finale is at 5.20pm. On Tuesday 31 May, the first race of seven is at 2.30pm, with the last at 5.30pm.

Accompanied children 16 always admitted free of charge.
