BOGART WINS REDCAR’S BIG RACE

The totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy, which offered total prize money of almost £208,000 at Redcar last Saturday, was won emphatically by Bogart, trained at Hambleton near Thirsk by Kevin Ryan and ridden by Philip Makin.

 

Bogart had a length and a half to spare over Excelette, and was the colt’s second major win of the season, after his victory in The DBS Premier Yearling Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival in August.

 

Other notable winners at Redcar on a sun-drenched Saturday were Kiwi Bay’s victory for the second successive year in The John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship Final and Chilworth Lad – trained in Berkshire by former England footballer, Mick Channon – landing The Guisborough Stakes, a Listed race over seven furlongs.

 

Redcar’s general manager, Amy Fair said “The lovely sunny weather and some superb racing combined to produce a crowd which was 1,000 up on last year. Bogart was a worthy winner of the big race and it will be interesting to see if he can progress to running in Group races”.
