DAN'S THE MAN - TREBLE FOR TUDHOPE

Sunday 27 August 2017

Danny Tudhope was the star of Redcar’s Ladies’ and Gents’ Evening meeting tonight with a treble at the seaside track.

The jockey was shown to great effect on favourite Mon Beau Visage in the Racing UK Straight Mile Series Handicap Stakes, getting David O’Meara’s gelding up by a short-head from Jim Goldie’s Scottish raider Testa Rossa.

Having denied Goldie a win, Tudhope then teamed up with the Glasgow trainer in the next race, driving Insurplus home by half a length from Old China, trained at Darlington by John Davies.

The treble came in the last race when he was back riding for his retained stable of David O’Meara and won readily on State Residence (see picture), with My Girl Maisie the closest pursuer.

There was a double for Kevin Stott, starting with a win on Kevin Ryan’s Fyre Cay in a pulsating finish with hot favourite Mistress of Venice in the Bakers Tailoring And Formal Hire Novice Auction Stakes. Luke Morris had snatched the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes by the tiniest of margins from Frankie Dettori on Lady Aurelia at York the day before, but this time he missed out by a head as Stott drove Fyre Cay to victory.

Stott then teamed up with Middleham trainer James Bethell to win the sixth race of the night on board Plage Depampelonne, who beat Clenymistra by half a length, denying Danny Tudhope a four-timer.

The meeting got underway with a Lady Amateur Riders’ race and York solicitor Serena Brotherton judged it to perfection, bringing Simon Crisford’s Newmarket raider home for a comfortable win from Broadway Dreams.

Serena, riding her 114th winner on the Flat, said: “I’m thrilled. She hadn’t run for a while and she surprised me by how well she did it.”

The MNC Racing syndicate, comprising members from Wiltshire and Berkshire, were celebrating after Escape The City made the long journey from Hughie Morrison’s East Isley stable pay off with a cosy win in the Market Cross Jewellers Fillies Novice Auction Stakes. Talented apprentice Charlie Bennett was cool beyond his years in catching Rotherhithe close to the winning post.

Syndicate member Keith Taylor said: “It’s been a long drive up from Wiltshire but we love it at Redcar, not just because we’ve had a winner, but because we’ve been made to feel so welcome. We’ve had a fantastic time.”
