Thursday 5 April 2012

Redcar’s traditional Easter Monday fixture (April 9) – the second meeting of the season at the seaside track – is scheduled to begin at 2-00 p.m. (gates open at noon).

There’s a variety of attractions for young racegoers in the Family Enclosure such as bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling and a magician. Easter bunnies will be distributing mini Easter eggs to the early arrivals.

The seven-race programme gets underway with The Market Cross Jewellers Fillies’ Handicap Stakes over the sprint distance of five furlongs, while the card also includes a qualifying race in this season’s John Smith’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship – a handicap series which culminates in a Final on Saturday, October 6. Aquarian Spirit won last year’s race, ridden by Paul Hanagan, who went on to be Britain’s Champion Jockey for the second successive year.
Former jockey, Jimmy Bleasdale will be conducting behind-the-scenes tours and paddock commentary, while there will be a preview of the afternoon’s racing in the Winners’ Enclosure prior to the first race.
Redcar’s general manager, Amy Fair said “Our traditional Easter Monday race meeting is a great day for families and friends to get together. Alongside the racing, we’ve got lots of free entertainment for families, while racegoers have the chance to enter the competition in the racecard to win a VIP day out on Zetland Gold Cup Day on Bank Holiday Monday, June 4.”
The giant screen, situated opposite the main stands, will enable racegoers to see even more action on the track.
