EASTER MONDAY ACTION AT REDCAR

Monday 25 March 2013

Redcar’s traditional Easter Monday fixture (April 1) signals the start of the 2013 season on the Flat at the seaside track – the first of 18 racedays this year, concluding on November 5.

We're opening the entrance gates at 12 noon and Easter Monday’s 7-race programme is scheduled to begin at 2-30 p.m.

There’s a variety of attractions for young racegoers in the Family Enclosure such as bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling and a magician.  Easter bunnies will be distributing mini Easter eggs to the early arrivals.

The action on the track gets underway with The Market Cross Jewellers Fillies’ Handicap Stakes over the sprint distance of five furlongs, while the card also includes a qualifying race in this season’s Redcar Straight-Mile Championship – a handicap series which culminates in a Final on Saturday, October 5. The title of the afternoon’s final race, The Redcar Grand National Trial Handicap Stakes may have something to do with the fact that its April Fool’s Day, as the race is for three-year-old sprinters!

There will be a preview of the afternoon’s racing in the Winners’ Enclosure prior to the first race, hosted by Graham Orange of ‘Go Racing in Yorkshire’.

Redcar’s general manager, Amy Fair said “We are delighted to be launching our 2013 racing season on Easter Monday. Horse racing over Easter is very popular and we’re looking forwards to a big Bank Holiday crowd.

“It’s no secret that Tees Valley faces severe economic challenges and, as a result, we haven’t increased general admission charges for six years.

“However, we have continued to invest in our facilities, so our attendances have held up very well indeed. With the exception of racecourses that occasionally give free admission on quiet days, we are thrilled to be able to say that we offer the more affordable day’s racing in Britain. We’re providing a family day out on our racedays for £10 or under for two adults and accompanied children aged under 16.”

The giant screen, situated opposite the main stands, will enable racegoers to see even more action on the track.
