First feature day for Redcar Racecourse will be a family affair

Monday 14 April 2014

Redcar Racecourse is kicking off its first feature race meeting of the 2014 season with an Easter Monday Extravaganza on the 21 April.

The Tees Valley racecourse will welcome families from across the North East along with the Easter bunny, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter.

Horse racing over Easter is always a popular event and the racecourse is looking forward to a bumper bank holiday crowd of around 5000 people.

Caroline Smith, sales and marketing assistant at Redcar Racecourse said: “The day promises to be fun filled with activities including an Easter treasure hunt, bouncy castles, face painting, stilt walking, a Mad Hatters Easter bonnet parade and mini eggs on arrival.”

The racecourse has teamed up with local performing arts company Page2Stage to deliver the fun filled day.  Kelly Fairhurst, former assistant director on Hollyoaks and Byker Grove, is director and lead tutor of Page2Stage. She said: “We’re really pleased to be working with Redcar Racecourse. We’ve themed the activities around Easter and there will be lots of familiar faces for the children, including Alice in Wonderland who will help the children find the Easter bunny!”

The front cover of the official racecard on the day will feature the art work of one lucky young artist as part of the racecourse’s family friendly ‘colouring in the racecard competition’. The winner will enjoy the full VIP hospitality treatment on the day and also have a race named after them and present the winning trophy for the race.

In addition to these exciting activities there will be seven races throughout the day including the Racing UK Straight-Mile Championship Qualifier which is always a nail biting event, the final of which will be held at Redcar Racecourse on Tote Two Year Old Trophy Day on Saturday 4th October.

Redcar Racecourse made a commitment this year to freeze its admission prices for the 7th year running, meaning it is the most affordable paid admission racecourse in Britain.
Amy Fair, general manager at Redcar Racecourse said: “It’s no secret that the Tees Valley faces severe economic challenges and, as a result, we haven’t increased general admission charges this season. Families are able to enjoy a day at Redcar Racecourse for just £10 as children under 17 years old go free to all of our race meetings.”

Redcar Racecourse has made significant improvements to its site over the Winter, investing in facilities for the horses and race goers.  It is also celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Petch Stand which was opened on Easter Monday 1964 by the then Chairman Lord Zetland and provides superb views of the finishing straight.

This is the first of many exciting feature race days for Redcar Racecourse over the 2014 racing season;  it is also putting on a Caribbean Carnival, Help For Heroes Family Day and the ever popular Ladies’ Day. The season will culminate in the silver anniversary of its famous Two Year Old Trophy.

There are many package options from the Dine & View in the Crow’s Nest Restaurant, to race goers’ packages including admission, a racecard, food and drink. Parties of 10 or more can also save over 20% when admission tickets are booked in advance so guests are guaranteed value for money.
