Redcar stages yet another eight-race card on Racing UK Club Day tomorrow (Wednesday, August 2) as it continues to build a reputation for giving punters plenty of value for money.

The climax is the latest heat in the popular Betfair series for amateur riders, and those taking part include the grand-daughter of Ginger McCain, who trained Red Rum to three Grand National victories.

Abbie McCain rode Know Your Name to victory at Wolverhampton at the start of July and takes the ride again for her father Donald McCain, who is better known for his jumpers but has a good strike rate when he comes to Redcar.

With Glorious Goodwood taking place in the south, it’s worth noting that former champion jockey Jamie Spencer makes the journey north to the seaside track.

He partners Charlie Hills’ Lambourn raider Global Passion, a £60,000 buy as a two-year-old, in the opener and he should take all the beating, although Kevin Ryan’s Stormbringer has an eye-catching entry in the Gimcrack Stakes at York later this month.

Newmarket-based Roger Varian’s Obeya was well-backed on her debut but failed to build on that promise in a Newmarket maiden last time. She’s worth another chance in the second race on the card and Kevin Ryan’s Caridade looks the most likely danger.

Wensleydale’s Ann Duffield has been having a torrid time but there are signs that her horses are coming to hand now and the consistent Chant looks well-weighted for the third race seller following a creditable second at Ripon. However, David Harker’s course and distance winner Bling King could strike gold after being second of 11 at Hamilton last time.

James Given’s grey colt True Romance, with Tom Eaves in the saddle, looks the answer to race four. A winner at Wolverhampton in June, he was a solid runner-up at Carlisle last time and is clearly in good heart.

Jamie Spencer hangs around for another live contender in the Racing UK Straight-Mile Series Handicap at 4.20pm when he rides Hugin, another Newmarket raider for David Simcock. Fourth over 1m 2f at Haydock last time, he’s dropped back in trip, having won over seven furlongs at Newcastle in May. This strongly run straight mile could prove ideal.

Kevin Ryan’s Heir of Excitement was second at Catterick on July 12 and is likely to be there or thereabouts, while Richard Hannon’s horses should never be underestimated at Redcar and he has Devil’s Bridge in the feature race line-up.

Rebecca Bastiman is having a good spell and her Be Bold looks the answer to race six. The gelding won under Connor Beasley at Catterick last time and can defy a penalty under the same jockey.

Yes You posted a career best performance for Dumfries trainer Iain Jardine at Hamilton last time, leading in the final strides, and will be well fancied to follow up under seven pound claimer Jamie Gormley in the penultimate race.

* Please note the gates will open to the public at 12noon, the first race is at 2.00pm and the last race is at 6.05pm.
