Hat’s the way to be noticed!

For Ladies’ Day at York Racecourse’s recent Ebor Festival, Marietta Doran wore an outfit by Middlesbrough designer Kate Fearnley. And topping it off was a hat designed by Lynne Young, of Redcar.

Lynne, 38, has recently set up her own business designing hats and fascinators, Chic-Hats, having qualified as a milliner earlier in the year.

It’s not the first time Lynne has backed a winner at the races.

The Gazette told in June how Lynne, 38, won the ‘best hat’ prize at Wetherby Racecourse’s Ladies’ Day while her friend from Redcar, Julie Moore, won the “best dressed lady” title in an outfit topped by a feathered hat Lynne made.

And in the same month, the Fearnley-Young combination proved a winner at Redcar Racecourse’s Ladies Day.

Of her York TV exposure, Lynne said: “Marietta Doran contacted me earlier in the year to see if I would be able to design a hat to accompany the dress she was wearing, which happened to be made by Kate Fearnley.

“Marietta appeared on Channel 4 Racing all afternoon, walking round the course, interviewing spectators and guests and commenting on the ladies’ fashion.

“Marietta mentioned me on the show several times, saying how much she loved the hat and also gave details of how I made the hat.

“This should hopefully give me a great opportunity and Marietta has mentioned she would like to work with me again.”
