REDCAR Racecourse is throwing open its gates on Monday (26 MAY) to welcome a bumper Bank Holiday crowd.

The two-day horse racing meeting on Monday and Tuesday coincides with the school half-term holidays.

All accompanied under 18s get into the racecourse free of charge – and for adults it’s just as little as £5 on Monday and £4 on Tuesday.
On the opening day, the showpiece event of the spring at the Tees Valley racecourse will be run – the Zetland Gold Cup. In the past, the race has been won by a horse owned by The Queen.
The one and a quarter mile race, which has been run at Redcar Racecourse since shortly after the end of the Second World War, will attract plenty of good horses for spectators to watch.
Lots of family entertainment is being laid on too by local entertainment company Page2stage, including Disney princesses, bouncy castles, stilt walkers and face painters.
The racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming a big crowd to our bank holiday racing on Monday 26 May.
“As well as our regular visitors, it’s a splendid opportunity for people who maybe haven’t been racing before to try out the sport for the first time. The entertainment is tremendous value for families seeking an affordable afternoon out when, as always, accompanied under 18s are admitted free of charge.”
The racecourse’s website offers the convenience of online purchasing of tickets for all racing days. There is also a guide to where to eat and drink at the racecourse – and discount vouchers can be downloaded.
One lucky visitor who has bought an admission ticket in advance will win a top prize, the Golden Ticket – admission to the races for four people, a race named in their honour, plus the chance to present the trophy for that race and enjoy VIP dining.
The second May Bank Holiday meeting is the latest in a series of attractive feature racing days between now and the autumn. Among the other highlights are:
Gates open on Monday 26 May at 12 noon. The first race is at 2.35pm. The finale is at 5.15pm. Admission: Grandstand £15; Course Enclosure £5. Seniors and students £12 Grandstand and £4 Course Enclosure.
Tuesday’s racing starts at 2.20pm. Admission: Grandstand £12; Course Enclosure £4. Seniors and students £9 Grandstand and £3 Course Enclosure.
Accompanied children (17 years and younger) are admitted free of charge on both days.
