Ladies' Day Is The Social Highlight Of The Year At Redcar Races

Friday 12 June 2009

THE annual Ladies' Day every June at Redcar Racecourse is one of the fashion and social highlights in the Tees Valley calendar.

This year’s big day is on Saturday 20 June and, as always, thousands of ladies will get out their finery, dress up and join their partners or friends for an afternoon at the races.

As is traditional at the racecourse’s Ladies’ Day, there are prizes for the ‘best dressed lady’ and the ‘best hat’. The judges mingle with the crowds, so everyone is in with a chance of winning.

Redcar Racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair ethused: “Flowers, bubbly and fancy hats . . . what more could a girl want? Every lady should dress to impress because they’ll be in with the chance of some great prizes which are worth more than £1,400.”

The lady judged to be the ‘best dressed’ will also be invited to go on to Yorkshire Racecourses’ Grand Finale on Ladies’ Day during the St Leger meeting at Doncaster Racecourse in September.

The winner of the Grand Finale at Doncaster will win a two-night stay at the Aldwark Manor Hotel near York.   Actress Claire King, star of TV’s Emmerdale and Bad Girls, will be there to help judge the overall winner, who will be crowned best dressed Lady in Yorkshire.

Back at Redcar Races on Saturday 20 June, the judging will be in the Winners Enclosure after the fourth race.

The prizes for the ‘best dressed’ ladies are: (1st) Diamond pendant & Traditional Sweetie Hamper (2nd) Chamilia bracelet with beads (3rd) Rotary stainless steel watch.

The prizes for the ladies with the ‘best hat’ are: (1st) Bespoke facinator and sterling silver sweetie bracelet (2nd) DKNY pendant (3rd) Fossil pendant.

After Ladies’ Day, the highlights for the rest of the year at Redcar Racecourse include:

v      Thursday 2 July – Irish Night;
v      Sunday 19 July – Family Fun Day;
v      Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August - Summer Weekend – Caribbean Carnival and School’s Out respectively;
v      Saturday 29 August - Party Night with Commitments concert after racing;
v      Saturday 3 October – Seasonal finale with the Two Year Old Trophy, Listed Guisborough Stakes and the final of the Boddingtons Straight Mile Championship Series.

Ladies’ Day is the second part of a two-day meeting which starts on Friday 19 June. There are seven races on each day. The first race on Friday is scheduled for 2.10pm. On Saturday, they’re off at 2.20pm, with the finale at 5.55pm.
