Thursday 10 June 2010

THE annual Ladies’ Day every June at Redcar Racecourse is one of the fashion and social highlights in the Tees Valley calendar.

This year’s big occasion is on Saturday 19 June and, as always, thousands of ladies will get out their finery, dress up and join their partners or friends for an afternoon at the races.

As is traditional at the racecourse’s Ladies’ Day, there are major prizes for the ‘best dressed lady’ and the ‘best hat’. The judges mingle with the crowds, so everyone is in with a chance of winning.
Redcar Racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair ethused: “Flowers, bubbly and fancy hats . . . what more could a girl want? Every lady should dress to impress because they’ll be in with the chance of some great prizes which are worth more than £2,000.”
The lady judged to be the ‘best dressed’ will also be invited to go on to the Yorkshire Racecourses Grand Final on Ladies’ Day during the St Leger meeting at Doncaster Racecourse in September, the winner of which receives a prize from Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel, nr Doncaster.  This luxury hotel was voted Yorkshire's Hotel of the Year by Welcome to Yorkshire in the White Rose Awards for Tourism 2009.
Back at Redcar Races on Saturday 19 June, the judging will be in the Winners’ Enclosure after the third and fourth races, with prizes from local designer Kate Fearnley, Chic Hats, Market Cross Jewellers and Totepool.
The prizes for the ‘best dressed’ ladies are: (1st) 18 carat gold 0.5ct sapphire and diamond pendant worth £1,150 from Market Cross Jewellers, a private shopping experience in the Kate Fearnley Boutique, including Champagne on arrival, a dress from Kate Fearnley’s Spring/ Summer collection and £100 in bets from the Tote; (2nd) Chamilia bracelet with charms worth £170; (3rd) Pink DKNY watch worth £69.
The prizes for the ladies with the ‘best hat’ are: (1st) Ladies’ stone set Armani watch worth £250 from Market Cross Jewellers and a bespoke handmade hairpiece by Chic Hats; (2nd) Gucci toggle necklace worth £130; (3rd) White Ice watch worth £65.
Designer Kate Fearnley will also be presenting a “What To Wear At The Races” fashion show in the Winners’ Enclosure at 1pm; there will be a chance to win a VIP prize for the new Lads’ Night on 1 July; plus a tipster session in the Winners’ Enclosure before racing begins.
After Ladies’ Day, the highlights for the rest of the year at Redcar Racecourse include:
  • Thursday 1 July – Lads’ Night;
  • Sunday 18 July – Family Fun Day;
  • Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August - Summer Weekend – Caribbean Carnival and Marske Hall Family Fun Day respectively;
