Thursday 16 September 2010

TWO new members of staff have started work at Redcar Racecourse.

Both are aged 24. Caroline Smith, the granddaughter of legendary former North East racehorse trainer Denys Smith, is the new sales and marketing executive, while Danielle Phillpott has joined as accounts assistant.

Denys trained horses for half a century in Bishop Auckland - including 1968 Grand National winner Red Alligator - until retiring a few years ago.  His daughter Susan works at Catterick Racecourse and grandson Richard is an amateur jockey.

Danielle was born in Guisborough and now lives in Redcar with her young family.
Redcar Racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair said: “We are delighted that two such enthusiastic young people as Caroline and Danielle have started out on their horse racing industry careers with us.”
The Tees Valley racecourse is rapidly preparing for its showpiece climax to the 2010 Flat racing season.
The races on Saturday 2 October include the £150,000 Tote Two Year Old Trophy, the £35,000 Listed Guisborough Stakes and the final of the £100,000 John Smith’s Straight Mile Championship Series. The first race is currently scheduled for 2.10pm.
The racecourse is also in action next Wednesday – 22 September – when it’s a 2.15pm start.
