Monday 28 June 2010

LADIESí Day is just about the most popular fixture of the year at Redcar Racecourse, and so it proved when thousands packed the Tees Valley track a week past Saturday. On Thursday evening (1 JULY), itís the turn of the men Ė for it is the racecourseís inaugural Ladsí Night.

And, with no World Cup games, there are no distractions for the menfolk.

The evening includes a special guest appearance by darts legend Bobby George, who will have his own darts roadshow, while there is a fun casino, a ‘best dressed lad’ competition and glitzy Las Vegas stilt-walking ladies.
Prizes for the competition come from Market Cross Jewellers, Psyche Department Store of Middlesbrough and totepool.
The first race of seven is at 6.10pm, with the finale at 9.20pm. A big screen will enable racegoers to follow all of the action on the track.
Redcar Racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair said: “Ladies’ Days at racecourses are all the rage, and our big meeting every June is always very popular. So we thought it would be nice for the men to get a look in too. With Bobby George ready and waiting to take on allcomers at the oche, we’re set for a splendid evening – with no World Cup distractions!”
After Lads’ Night, the highlights for the rest of the year at Redcar Racecourse include:
  • Sunday 18 July – Family Fun Day;
  • Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August - Summer Weekend – Caribbean Carnival and Marske Hall Family Fun Day respectively;
  • Saturday 28 August - Party Night;
  • Saturday 2 October – Seasonal climax with the £150,000 Tote Two Year Old Trophy, £40,000 Listed Guisborough Stakes and the final of the £100,000 John Smith’s Straight Mile Championship Series.
