RACING UK TV CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF BROADCASTING TOMORROW

Wednesday 28 May 2014

Commemorative microsite and on-screen features mark the occasion

Racing UK (Sky 432/Virgin 536/UPC 411/Freeview 231) is celebrating 10 years of broadcasting tomorrow (May 29) – a decade which has seen the TV channel evolve into a multi-faceted media rights business and major deliverer of revenues to the sport.

A microsite (racinguk.com/racinguk10) has launched to celebrate the landmark and includes the A-Z of Racing UK, features with the founders who overcame significant hurdles in launching the channel, insight into the original broadcast, and our top 10 Racing UK moments poll, in which there is a VIP Cheltenham package – including a course walk with Ruby Walsh – up for grabs.

Aside from running the top 10 poll, look out for funnies and testimonials on the channel, which is also staging a double header presentation from tomorrow’s two evening cards at Wetherby and Sandown – featuring the Cantor Fitzgerald Brigadier Gerard Stakes – to mark the occasion.
In addition, Racing UK is unveiling its best ever subscription offer: join Racing UK on May 29 (one day only) for just £10 per month for an entire year – a yearly saving of £150 or €186.

Richard FitzGerald, CEO of Racing UK and its parent company Racecourse Media Group, said:
“There were many in the racing industry who did not give Racing UK a chance of celebrating its first birthday, let alone 10th. Thankfully over the years, the founders, racecourses, executive teams, board members, partners, media, and, of course, subscribers have always believed in the business, which is now firmly established as a key component of the industry.

“Racing UK has come a long, long way since Rishi Persad (left) opened our coverage at Kempton Park on May 29, 2004. We have added four courses – including Ascot which becomes the 34th to join the channel in time for next month’s Royal Meeting – grown our subscriber-base to nearly 55,000 and now show 733 fixtures a year, which is more than any other channel.

“Our coverage has also developed via increased international racing, features, studio programmes and no intrusive advertising, while the way you can watch has also changed markedly as we continue to innovate.

“The cutting-edge Racing UK Anywhere service allows you to view on three platforms for the price of one, while our website, Apps and social media have also brilliantly showcased our content.

“The business is ever-expanding and through Racing UK’s parent company, Racecourse Media Group, and its derivatives, Turf TV and GBI Racing, pays all its profits to its racecourse-shareholders, which last year totalled £65million. Here’s to the next 10 years!”
