Redcar sculpture dedicated to our soldiers

Friday 15 October 2010

SOLDIERS young and old were on hand at the dedication of a stunning new sculpture to The Yorkshire Regiment.

An old cherry tree in Redcar Cemetery has been transformed into a sculpture of red-stained tulips.

And with the flowers symbolising “perfect love”, it’s been dedicated to the troops our region holds particularly dear to its heart.

The Friends of Redcar Cemetery arranged for woodland sculptor Steve Iredale to create the piece, which will act as a memorial for Green Howards and Yorkshire Regiment troops.

Dignitaries crowded around the sculpture yesterday as 18 serving Yorkshire Regiment soldiers, followed by ex-servicemen and women bearing seven standards, led a parade from the nearby Redcar Racecourse car park to the sculpture site.
