REDCAR TO REMAIN MOST AFFORDABLE RACECOURSE IN BRITAIN IN 2014

Monday 20 January 2014

TICKET prices are being frozen at Redcar Racecourse for the seventh year in 2014, meaning that the Tees Valley track remains the most affordable paid admission racecourse in Britain at which to watch horse racing.

Only Towcester Racecourse in Northamptonshire – which sometimes offers free admission but on popular days charges £10 – can claim to be cheaper at times.

Redcar’s ‘Course Enclosure’ – which offers a café, bar and picnic area – costs just £4 for adults and £3 for students and pensioners on most days.  At weekends and on bank holidays, the prices are £1 more.

With accompanied children aged under 18 admitted free of charge, horse racing at Redcar Racecourse offers a value-for-money day out for families.

It comes as a new report has revealed that a day out at horse racing offers better value for families than any other major sporting attraction.  The study – by the Deloitte Sports Business Group – pointed out that free admission for accompanied under 16s at racecourses meant that only a visit to a cinema offered better value for families.

Deloitte director Alan Switzer said: “It’s no surprise that racing is Britain’s second-biggest spectator sport when it offers such excellent value for money.”

Redcar Racecourse has previously revealed a similar picture in the North East, with horse racing offering a more affordable day out than other sports.

Redcar Racecourse’s General Manager Amy Fair said: “It’s no secret that Tees Valley still faces severe economic challenges and as a result, at our racecourse, we haven’t increased general admission prices for many years.  We are delighted for our visitors to know that pricing policy will continue in 2014.

“We have continued to invest in our facilities, so our attendances have held up very well indeed.  We are thrilled to be able to say that we offer the most affordable day’s racing in Britain where charges are made.  We’re providing a family day out on all our bigger racing days for £10 for two adults and accompanied children aged under 16.”

Racing resumes at Redcar Racecourse in 2014 with two fixtures in April – on Monday 7 and Monday 21 (Easter Monday).
