SECOND REDCAR TREBLE IN A MONTH FOR DANNY TUDHOPE - AND A GREAT DAY FOR JEDD O'KEEFFE

David O’Meara’s stable jockey made it a 235-1 hat-trick on Ventura Royal, Quatrieme Ami, and Fire Leopard.

Tudhope had also celebrated a three-timer at the ladies’ and gents’ evening meeting at Redcar at the back end of August and has surely never been riding better.

It was also a big day for popular Leyburn trainer Jedd O’Keeffe who made it his best ever tally of winners in a season after scoring a double with Echo and Candelisa.

Echo made it a record-equalling 17 winners in a season for O’Keeffe under Jack Garritty, before Candelisa made it 18 with an authoritative win for Graham Lee in the seller.

It was a bitter-sweet victory because O’Keeffe explained that Candelisa is a real stable favourite and he was bought after the race for £19,000 by trainer Tony Coyle.

"We've had him since he was a foal and we absolutely adore him. My children ride him and we'll all miss him but that's the racing business. We thought he’d win in this grade," said O’Keeffe, who is back in good health after a fight against cancer.

After Echo had beaten Tim Easterby’s Ventura Crest by a short-head at 16-1, O’Keeffe said: "We really like the horse but he's taken a long time to learn the job. He'll go to the Doncaster sales and we think he'll make a super dual-purpose horse."

Crazy World, trained at Malton by Declan Carroll and ridden by apprentice Phil Dennis, sprung a 20-1 surprise in our opener.

And, after Echo’s long-priced win in the second, favourite-backers breathed a sigh of relief as Godolphin's Al Hajar cruised to a 7-length win in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes under Phillip Makin.

Trained at Newmarket by Charlie Appleby, the Dark Angel colt couldn't have won more easily and looks a decent prospect.
Danny Tudhope’s first winner of the day, the David O’Meara-trained Ventura Royal, was another success for the prolific Middleham Park Racing syndicate.

Tudhope then followed up with a narrow win on the well-backed Quatrieme Ami for Newmarket trainer Philip McBride.

The jockey’s treble came under a typically powerful drive to win the seventh race by a head on Fire Leopard, making it a double for his boss David O'Meara. He just got the better of Desert Ruler, denying Jedd O'Keeffe a treble of his own.

However, the best finish of a cracking day's racing was reserved for the eighth and final race as Tim Easterby’s Nun's Walk snatched victory in a three-way thriller from Meandmyshadow and Rapid Ranger.
Ridden by the ever-reliable David Allan, the chestnut filly won by a nose and a short-head.
