Sophie Antill from Skelton, near Redcar, won the ‘Best Dressed Lady’ competition at the recent Ladies' Day meeting at Redcar Racecourse.

She caught the eye of the judges in a stunning daffodil yellow Hybrid dress from Kiwi Boutique of Guisborough, a fascinator, including yellow roses which Sophie had stitched in that morning and matching accessories.

However, in pride of place was a beautiful watch given to her by partner Barry as a birthday present, before he returned to his role in the Army.
Sophie, a medical secretary in the Intensive Care Unit at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, said: ‘It is the first time I had worn the watch and it turned out to be a lucky charm. Barry has only just gone back so he will be thrilled when he sees it on all the pictures.’
Sophie’s luck didn’t extend to the horses as her and five friends failed to back a single winner.
‘We don’t really follow the horses so it was more about having a great day out to celebrate a friend’s birthday, which we always do when we go to the races,’ she added.
Her prizes included a 9 carat white gold blue topaz and diamond cocktail ring, provided by Market Cross Jewellers, a £50 voucher for Orange Kerr Hair and Beauty and a bouquet, courtesy of Flowers by Hannah.
She now goes forward to represent Redcar in the Grand Finale of the ‘Go Racing in Yorkshire Best Dressed Lady 2013’ competition which takes place at Doncaster on October 26th.
The prize for the overall winner is a luxury two night break in a Spa Suite with treatments included at the Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel in Doncaster, a £500 fashion voucher for Yasmine of Bawtry and Epworth and a diamond pendant to the value of £2500, courtesy of
The winner will also become the face of Go Racing in Yorkshire for 2014, which promotes racing at the county’s nine racecourses.
The next Ladies’ Day in the county takes places at Pontefract Racecourse on Wednesday August 7th. Full details of every Ladies Day meeting in Yorkshire can be found at
