REDCAR Racecourse is set to welcome a legend of the sport of horse racing at its next fixture on Tuesday 8th June.

Guisborough-born Bob Champion and Aldaniti made Grand National history 29 years ago when the jockey defeated cancer and his horse overcame a career-threatening injury to win the world’s greatest steeplechase.

Their feat was made into a movie – Champions.
Now Bob is travelling 10,000 miles to all 60 British racecourses in the space of 60 days to raise funds for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust and the Injured Jockeys Fund.
He is at the Tees Valley racecourse for the fixture on Tuesday 8 June when the first race is the Champions 60:60 Charity Challenge Median Auction Maiden Stakes.
The trip began at Ascot Racecourse in mid-April, and finishes at the Berkshire racecourse again during Royal Ascot the week after he is in Redcar.
The racecourse’s general manager Amy Fair said: “Bob Champion is one of the most famous ever jump jockeys and we will be delighted to welcome him during his ‘Champions 60:60 Charity Challenge’.”
The event’s website has all the information for people to find out more and to register for a place to join Bob Champion at the races.
The first race on Tuesday 8 June is at 2pm.
