‘WALKING THE COURSES’ POISED TO TICK OFF THE FIRST OF NINE YORKSHIRE RACECOURSE APPEARANCES

Tuesday 31 March 2015

On Easter Monday, fundraiser and 52-year-old father of four, Richard Farquhar, will arrive at Redcar Racecourse having walked from Sedgefield Racecourse, on the third stage of his epic fundraising venture, Walking The Courses.

Farquhar is aiming to raise £1.4million for Racing Welfare and Pancreatic Cancer UK by connecting all sixty racecourses in mainland Britain on foot in an unbroken chain, in doing so covering around 2,750 miles.

To complete his Sedgefield to Redcar leg of the journey in style, Farquhar will be walking around the Redcar course itself at 10:30am, before the gates open at 11:00. Racegoers are invited to participate, too, and should contact Walking The Courses via the website (bottom) should they wish to do so.

It is early days for Walking The Courses, with Redcar Racecourse being just the third racecourse in the country to host the charity campaign. By April 2016, upon arrival back at the Newmarket, having completed all 58 racecourse-to-racecourse walks, Richard hopes to have hit his ambitious target of £1.4million, to have involved people from all across the UK in his challenge - including notable individuals within the horse racing industry - and partnered with some of the biggest corporates within the racing industry.

In spite of the campaign having only just started, Richard has already raised over £55,000 in donations and pledges: a great platform from which to chase his fundraising target of £1.4million. The exit bucket collection at Redcar Racecourse on Easter Monday will be in aid of Walking The Courses and racegoers are encouraged to give generously for the campaign’s two extremely worthy but crucially underfunded beneficiaries.

Amy Fair, General Manager of Redcar Racecourse, comments, “We are delighted that Walking The Courses will be joining us on Easter Monday.  Richard has our full support in this tremendous challenge and we are sure that he will be successful in raising his target amount of £1.4million by April 2016 for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Racing Welfare.  We hope that our racegoers will show their support and be generous in their donations.”
