Yorkshire Racecourses SUPPORT TICKETS FOR TROOPS

Friday 11 December 2009

Nine racecourses pledge hundreds of free entry tickets to our soldiers, sailors and airmen. Children under 16 go FREE to all nine courses so Troops can enjoy a family day at the races at no cost

Tickets For Troops (T4T) offers servicemen and women a number of free tickets for days at the races, and most racecourses around Britain have agreed to participate in the initiative.

In recognition of the extraordinary work of our Armed Forces, Britain’s racecourses have included over 800 fixtures within their donation to T4T, including top days such as The Ebor Festival at York, The St Leger at Doncaster and The Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter.

In addition to any other provision, the eight Yorkshire flat courses are offering free tickets for Troops at the third Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival, from Saturday 17 – Sunday 25 July 2010. And jumping course Wetherby is chipping in with its fixture on Thursday 3 June.

‘Our Summer Festival is the ideal vehicle to offer county-wide support for this worthwhile initiative. With a significant number of service bases in Yorkshire, such as Catterick and York Garrisons and RAF Leeming and Linton-on-Ouse, I’m sure we’ll get an excellent response,’ said Simon Channon, Chairman of Go Racing in Yorkshire.

Tickets for Troops is a new and independent not-for-profit organisation. The sole aim of the initiative is to secure the donation of tickets to major sporting and cultural events across the country from the organisers, and to make them available through a dedicated website to all serving members of HM Forces and all those medically discharged from the Forces since the commencement of military action in Afghanistan in 2001. Applicants simply register at www.ticketsfortroops.org.uk and can then choose to make their booking from one of thousands of available events. For each booking a donation of just £1 is requested, with all proceeds being donated across various Service charities.

This noble initiative has attracted maximum support from a host of Patrons, including Vera Lynne, Lawrence Dallaglio and James Blunt and thousands of tickets have been made available for top Premier League football matches, rugby games, cricket matches, boxing, athletics meetings, big music acts, tennis tournaments, snooker halls and West End theatres, in addition to horseracing.

Nic Coward, Chief Executive of the British Horseracing Authority, said:

“We are very proud to be a part of Tickets For Troops and to champion the remarkable work of our country’s service men and women. We have attracted an enormous amount of support from racecourses around the country and hope that this pledge from British Horseracing goes some way to recognising the brave work carried out by our Armed Forces.”
