Hart-trick! Jockey Jason lands quick-fire treble at Redcar
21/09/22

JOCKEY Jason Hart took the honours at Redcar today by scoring a hat-trick in the first three races.

Hart got off to a flying start when Talamanca, trained at Newmarket by Richard Spencer, ran on well to win the opening Try Racingtv For Free Now Racingtv.Com/Freetrial Nursery Handicap.

Spencer trained the winner’s father, Rajasinghe, to win the 2017 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and predicts he's a sire "that's going places".

“He’s had six individual runners and five of them have won,” said the trainer.

Talamanca was winning for the third time and Spencer added: “He should have won his last five races but was unlucky on his two last runs on the all-weather. He’s been very consistent since going handicapping and loves fast ground.”

Hart made it two out of two when Lincoln Rockstar showed a fine turn of foot to overhaul favourite Solitary Trees in the Racingtv.Com/Freetrial Nursery Handicap.

Jock Bennett, assistant to Charlie and Mark Johnston at Middleham, said of the daughter of Churchill: “She just got run off her toes last time, but she’s done it well in the end.”

Hart made it three on the bounce when In These Shoes strode out impressively to make it a double for Johnston Racing in the British EBF Supports Racing To School Future Stayers Maiden Stakes.

Owner Barbara Richmond travelled from Hampshire to see the Starspangledbanner filly win at her third attempt after two seconds.

Barbara, finance director of housebuilder Redrow, has four horses with Charlie and Mark Johnston, including Living Legend, winner of the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket this season.

“If this filly progresses as well as Living Legend between two and three, we’ll be thrilled,” added Barbara, who also has multiple winner Misty Grey with Tom Dascombe.

Assistant trainer Jock Bennett, who is celebrating 50 years in the industry and 25 with Johnston Racing, said: “She did it well and really bounced off the better ground.”

He also praised Jason Hart, saying: “He’s been picking up more opportunities with Joe Fanning being injured, and he’s taking them well. He started with us and he’s a lad we’ve always used.”

Hart was well fancied to make it a four-timer on the Johnston’s Knightswood in the Watch RacingTV For Free For 31 Days Handicap, but was denied by a gutsy display from American Flag, trained at Lambourn by Ed Walker and ridden by Hector Crouch.

There was a warm reception for the popular Hayley Turner as she returned to the winner’s enclosure on Kaif, her on only ride of the day in the Tony Whitehead 60 Courses At 60 Maiden Stakes.

The Teofilio filly, trained at Newmarket by David Simcock, had shown promise on her debut at Kempton, and won readily from Michael Dods’ well-supported newcomer Abruzzo Mia, who is one for the notebooks.

Lotus Rose, already a course and distance winner, clearly loves Redcar and she blazed a trail from the front to land the Start Your Racingtv Free Trial Now Handicap for trainer Roger Fell and jockey Sam James.

Michael Binns, who runs The Roses Partnership, which owns the filly, said: “When she won here in June, the four horses that followed her home came out and won, but she’s been disappointing since then. We know the ability’s there but she’s just moody. Today, it was never in doubt and we’re over the moon.”

There was a win for the Scottish borders as Kilconquhar swooped late under Rowan Scott to land the Watch Race Replays At Racingtv.Com Handicap (Division 1) for trainer Ewan Whillans.

Co-owner Bill Ellis, who travelled from Aberdeen to see the gelding win, said he could be out again as early as Monday at Hamilton Park.

Mr Ellis said: “We’re delighted because he’s come up against some decent horses and things haven’t quite fallen for him. Rowan’s won on him before, and I’m delighted for Ewan because of the hard work he puts in.”

Albeseeingyer, trained by Steph Hollinshead and ridden by Clifford Lee, mate it a hat-trick in the concluding Watch Race Replays At Racingtv.Com Handicap (Division 2). The Al Kazeem filly outbattled favourite Miss Candy to win by half a length.
