Redcar pays tribute to Adele Mulrennan as she bows out as raceday presenter
31/10/22

REDCAR Racecourse is giving raceday presenter, Adele Murennan, a fitting send-off at its final meeting of 2022.

Adele, who has become an established part of the ITV Racing team over the past couple of years, is stepping down from her regular role at Redcar after seven years.

As a thank you, Redcar’s third race at its Poppy Day Appeal meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, November 1) has been named the Thank You Adele Nursery.

Redcar’s general manager Amy Fair said: “It has been a joy to have Adele as our raceday presenter since 2016 and to see how she has blossomed into a key member of the ITV Racing team.

“She has brought a huge amount of knowledge and experience to the role here at Redcar, along with a friendly, down-to-earth style that has made her popular with our racegoers.

“Her responsibilities with the ITV Racing team have grown, and she wants to spend more time with her young daughter, Scarlett, so her decision to step down is completely understandable. Hopefully, she will be back to provide cover from time to time and we wish her well in everything she does.”

Adele, who is married to jockey Paul Mulrennan, will be succeeded at Redcar by Racing TV presenter Amy Ryan, pictured below. Amy, a successful former jockey, is daughter of North Yorkshire trainer Kevin Ryan.

In 2012, she created history by being crowned Britain’s first woman rider to lift the apprentice championship outright.

Amy Fair added: “As sorry as we are to see Adele go, we are thrilled that someone with Amy Ryan’s in-depth knowledge and connections is taking over. The raceday presenter’s role is a vital part of the team at Redcar and we are confident we have the right person to follow in Adele's footsteps.”

Adele was also a successful jockey. Having grown up in Otley, she started riding out with Sue and Harvey Smith before moving to Flat trainer Richard Fahey's yard at Malton. She rode her first winner on Zarova, trained by Mick Easterby, and her biggest win came in the Scottish Sprint Cup in 2008 on Masta Plasta, trained by the late Dandy Nicholls.

She has also been a Go Racing In Yorkshire raceday presenter at York, Catterick, Thirsk, Ripon, Beverley, Wetherby and Pontefract. She is also stepping down at the other tracks, apart from Wetherby.
