THE race to be champion trainer at Redcar has gone down to a final day photo-finish with Tim Easterby emerging as the winner.

David O’Meara, based at Upper Helmsley, was leading with 10 winners going into the final day on Tuesday.

However, Tim, who trains at Malton, finished with a flourish, landing a double with Give It Some Teddy and Parys Mountain.

It meant that the two highly successful North Yorkshire trainers were tied on 10 winners each, but Tim had 14 second places, compared to nine runner-up placings for David.

The placings were also tight for third place with Michael Dods tying with Charlie and Mark Johnston on six winners each. However, Michael had seven seconds, compared to three for the Johnstons.

The jockeys’ championship was more clearcut with Jason Hart taking the title on eight wins, followed by Danny Tudhope, PJ McDonald and Connor Beasley tying for second with seven wins.

 In the best turned-out competition, Katie Midgley won with nine prizes, followed by Lauren Stockdale and Ceri Thompson tied with five.
