Personal Assistant Scheme

We have recently partnered with Nimbus Disability, operators of the Access Card scheme, making it possible for those requiring essential companion admission to book easily in advance.

Designed to streamline the process of communicating your access needs, the Access Card translates your disability or impairment into easy-to-understand symbols, effectively highlighting the barriers you face and serves as recognised proof of your requirements.

There are over 3 million Access card holders across the UK, and over 2,500 venues and service providers recognise and use the Access Card system.

If you are new to Access Card and you would like to apply for one purely for use at Redcar Racecourse,  then this is a FREE service.

Register for your FREE Redcar Racecourse Digital Access Card , providing details of your access requirements.

If you would prefer a physical Access Card that will be recognised by all of the registered venues across the country, then the cost is just £15.00 for 3 years.

The physical card acts as a photo ID and additional to translating your needs into symbols, the Access Card serves as recognised proof of your requirements, eliminating the need for repeated explanations at different venues.

Parking:

We have free public car parking and reserved Blue Badge parking in both enclosures.

Please remember to leave plenty of time when planning your journey as the routes around the racecourse can become very busy in the lead up to gates opening and the first race.  It is always better to come early and have time to enjoy the atmosphere of a day at the races than be stuck in the traffic missing the first race!

The on-site car park surface is tarmac or grass, and are all at ground level.

There is a drop off point for both enclosures directly opposite the main big red admission gates.

Many of the buildings at Redcar Racecourse date back to the 1960s and some areas of which were designed and built without considering the needs of visitors with accessibility needs.

Redcar Racecourse is easily accessible and provides facilities for wheelchair users in all areas, as well as a very clear and well utilised public-address system.

We have a number of bars and catering outlets located on the ground floor, and those that are not on the ground floor have access via passenger lifts.

There is also a CCTV production showing the racing on an external big screen and TV screens situated in both enclosures.

A portable hearing loop system is available on request.

In the Grandstand Enclosure there is a great deal of tarmac and paths aiding movement around the racecourse.  There is more grass in the Course Enclosure and the key areas are accessible, however we would suggest that the Grandstand Enclosure is more accessible to wheelchair users.  In the Grandstand Enclosure there is an accessible viewing ramp alongside the track, just past the finishing post.  There is also an accessible viewing ramp alongside the Parade Ring, located at the Pre-Parade Ring end and overlooking the Parade Ring and horsewalk to / from the track.

There is plenty of free packing on site.  For those coming racing in the Grandstand Enclosure car parking can be reserved in the forward trackside Grandstand parking area. This option is available to book via the individual raceday, subject to availability - FIXTURES

What our visitors say
+

Our aim is to make Redcar Racecourse accessible to all but don't take our word for it:

Just a quick note to say on behalf of the group that came to the race meeting on Monday a big thankyou. The people with disabilities really enjoyed the experience, and the staff said how helpful the racecourse staff were in welcoming them, pointing them in the right direction and assisting  etc.  Many thanks also for your help in arranging the visit.
