Find out all the answers to frequently asked questions about going racing at Redcar Racecourse.

Abandonment
+

Unfortunately, as with most outdoor pursuits, horseracing occasionally finds itself subject to adverse weather conditions and as such Redcar operates a fair abandonment policy in order to manage these occasions, which is as follows,

  • Before the 1st race – Full refund
  • Before the 3rd race – 50% refund
  • After the 3rd race – No refund
Announcements
+

PA announcements are reserved for health and safety, raceday, and sponsors announcements only.

Unfortunately we are not able to give out any non-essential announcements (such as birthdays or celebrations) over the PA system.

Admission
+

Redcar Racecourse reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone and to remove any person from the Racecourse without assigning a reason for doing so and do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to persons or their property.

Annual Badges
+

Betting
+

Britbet pool betting facilities are located within each enclosure.  There is also a William Hill Betting Office in the Grandstand Enclosure.

Betting Rings are located in the Paddock and Course Enclosures

Any complaints arising from bets placed with Bookmakers at Redcar Racecourse must be directed to the Racecourse Betting Compliance (RBC) on 01480 499180 or by email mainoffice@rbc-uk.com

Big Screen & TVs
+

There's a big screen on all racedays so you'll never miss any of the racing action.

There are also plenty of TVs in the cafes and bars to make the viewing of the whole race easy from both enclosures.

The big screen and TVs also show the list of runners & riders with approximate odds, and racing from other racecourses also racing on the day.

Car Parking

There's plenty of free parking on site for both Enclosures.

  •     Grandstand Enclosure, Redcar Lane    = Satnav postcode TS10 2FD 
  •     Course Enclosure, West Dyke Road     = Satnav postcode TS10 1H

Grandstand Trackside Parking - If you'd like to park in the trackside car park don't forget to book your space when you purchase your Grandstand admission tickets and we'll send you a car park hanger in the post.

Challenge 21 & Challenge 25
+

Redcar Racecourse operates the Challenge 21 scheme for betting and the Challenge 25 scheme at the bars.

Please remember that if you are 21 or 25 and lucky enough to look younger you should carry identification with you as you will be asked to prove that you are over 18 when attempting to place a bet or buy alcohol.

If you are unable to prove that you are over 18 and attempt to place a bet or purchase alcohol you will be asked to leave the racecourse premises.

If in doubt, bring your I.D.

 

Children

Under 18 logo

All under 18's are admitted free of charge to all fixtures at Redcar Racecourse when accompanied by an adult.

There really aren’t many places that you can take the kids for free, so make the most of it and enjoy an afternoon of racing with the whole family!  The playground is open for all race meetings and there's always lots of free family entertainment on our Premier race meetings.

Childcare Facilities

Baby changing is provided in the disabled toilet faciliites in both the Grandstand and Course Family Enclosures.

In the Course Family Enclosure there is an outdoor play area for children, supplemented on Premier Days by other activities. Please check with the racecourse for details.

Claiming in Selling & Claiming Races

The procedures for Claiming and Selling races have changed.  No claims will be accepted on the racecourse.  No additional period is allowed for friendly claims. 

Registered owners, licensed and permitted trainers may claim by telephone, to Weatherbys on 01933 30 30 80. Such claims must be made within 15 minutes of the start of the race.   BHA security code is required (to apply, contact Weatherbys on 01933 44 00 77) .  No premium will be payable in the event of unopposed friendly claims.

Coach & Minibus Parking

Please drop off / collect racegoers for both Enclosures in the Course Enclosure.  

There's plenty of free minibus / coach parking in the centre course which serves both the Course and Grandstand Enclosures.

Disabled Racegoers & Carers Admission Policy

Redcar Racecourse is committed to providing an accessible environment for all racegoers. 

We have a Personal Assistant/ Companion Scheme in place if a racegoers requires assistance when attending a race meeting.

We do offer a familiarisation visit on a non-racing day to careres organising a day racing at Redcar for the first time.  Please contact us in advance if you would like to organise a visit - 01642 484 068.

Dogs
+

Dogs (except registered guide dogs) are not allowed into the Grandstand or Course Family Enclosures.

Dress Code
+

Redcar does not operate a formal dress code.  Racegoers are advised to dress for the great British weather!

Racegoers tend to dress up for our Premier Days - from big hats on Ladies' Day to Hawaiian shirts on Caribbean Carnival Day. 

Emergency Procedures
+
In the unlikely event of an incident which necessitates the partial or total evacuation of any area of the racecourse, announcements will be made over  the Public Address System and visually on the Television Monitors.
The evacuation plans have been designed to usher you to a safe area by our stewards who can be identified by their green jackets or staff badges aided by the uniform security personnel.
Please take your belongings with you and follow the directions of the staff as quickly and quietly as possible.
It might give you some peace of mind if you pre-plan and agree a meeting place in case your party becomes separated.
 
These are just precautionary notes and we trust you will follow the management’s and staff’s instructions at all times to prevent accident or injury to yourself or others.
Please remember in the event of an incident to TAKE YOUR POSSESSIONS WITH YOU AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE STAFF AS QUICKLY AND QUIETLY AS POSSIBLE

 

Enclosures

The Grandstand Enclosure is our largest enclosure and offers a wide variety of bars, catering establishments and excellent areas from which to watch the racing.
 
Situated in the centre of the track the Course Enclosure, also known as the Family Enclosure, is a great place for an inexpensive day out.

Food & Drink / Drinking Areas

Numerous bars and catering facilities are provided within each enclosure.  For more detailed information please visit our Enclosures page. 

Picnics are permitted in the Course Enclosure and there are a number of picnic benches around the enclosure.  Racegoers are permitted to bring alcohol into the Course Enclosure however this is limited to personal consumption only - 4 cans of beer, lager, cider, pre-mixed "gin tins" per person. Glass bottles are NOT permitted.

Racegoers are not permitted to bring any personal supplies of food or drink into the Grandstand Enclosure.  Only refreshments purchased within the racecourse can be consumed in the Grandstand Enclosure.

Patrons are asked to respect the restrictions places on the marked areas of the Racecourse Stands and Enclosures where drinks are not permitted.  Alcohol is permitted outside in plastic glasses.  Broken glass and bottles are dangerous and in the interest of safety and the comfort of others please don not carry drinks into the areas adjacent to the Parade Ring and Unsaddling Enclosure.

Please dispose of your empty glasses and bottles in the containers provided.
First Aid
+

Qualified First Aiders are on duty in all of the enclosures. 

The main First Aid point is located directly opposite the Pre-Parade Ring next to the Lumley Road Entrance.  This is supplemented by the First Aid point in the Course Enclosure which is open on Premier Days.

If you require first aid assistance, please speak to a member of the Racecourse staff.

Going Conditions

The ‘Going’ refers to the condition of Redcar’s track.

Helicopters
+

Helicopter landing facilities are available by prior arrangement with Redcar Racecourse. 

The helicopter landing position is located in the centre of the racecourse and is located on racedays by the clearly visible H marker.  Should you wish to arrive by helicopter please complete and return the helicopter landing request form to the Racecourse Office in advance of the race meeting on 01642 484 068.
 
There is a fee of £50 for Helicopters that wish to land at Redcar Racecourse on non-racing business.

Horse Welfare
+

Redcar Racecourse are committed to minimizing risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care. 

At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Veterinary Surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action.  There is also an BHA Veterinary Officer in attendance. 
 
It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse.  It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy.

Hospitality

Mobile Telephones & Radios
+

The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all Racecourse.  

Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers, etc. for any purpose at the Racecourse.

Mobile telephones may not be used in or near a designated betting area for off-course betting purposes.

Opening Times
+

The Racecourse opens 2 hours before the first race.  Please see our full Fixture List for details of approximate 1st race times.
 
The Racecourse Office is open during normal office hours 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, as well as on racedays.

Photography
+

Amateur photography is permitted on the Racecourse in all areas normally open to the public.

Professional and press photographers wishing to attend a race meeting must contact the Racecourse for accreditation prior to arrival.

Flash photography is not permitted in any circumstances.

Picnics, BBQs & Gazebos

Picnics are permitted in the Course Famiy Enclosure.  Bring your own camping chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy your day.

Racegoers are permitted to bring alcohol into the Course Family Enclosure however this is limited to personal consumption only - 4 cans of beer, lager, cider, or pre-mixed "gin tins" per person.  Glass bottles are NOT permitted.

BBQs, Footballs & Gazebos

Portable / disposable BBQs, Footballs and Gazebos are not permitted within the racecourse enclosures.  Please do not bring them with you as you will be refused entrance.   Portable chairs and picnic blankets are permitted in the Course Enclosure only.

Racecard / Programme
+

A Racecard or Race Programme is the essential guide for the day’s events and provides details of all the runners and riders. 
 
The Racecard also contains useful information, adverts and articles.
 
Racecards are available to purchase from kiosks located within all the enclosures on raceday. 
 
The price for a Racecard is currently £2

Refunds or Cancellations
+

Refunds on tickets or badges will only be made in the event that racing is abandoned. 

If you have booked tickets by mistake or are unable to come racing due to illness you can transfer the booking to another race meeting on a like for like basis during the current season. 

If you have unused tickets in your party these can be exchanged to another race meeting on a like for like basis during the current season.

Restaurants

The Crow's Nest and Voltigeur Restaurants are located within the Grandstand Enclosure close to the Parade Ring and Winners' Enclosure. 

The Crow's Nest Restaurant offers a dine and view package for the day. 

In the Voltigeur Restaurant tables are available to book in advance, but are also available on the day of racing on a first-come first serve basis.  Tables are available for groups of up to 10 (max).  Racegoers will need to purchase Grandstand tickets in order to access the restaurants.

Security Checks

All tickets, e-tickets and badges will be carefully checked and Metal badges will also be recorded on entry.

Redcar Racecourse cannot guarantee the validity of any tickets or badges unless purchased directly from The Racecourse.

Bag checking may take place at the entrances to the racecourse, under advice from the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.

Smoking

To assist compliance with the Health Act 2006, it is against the law to smoke within any facility or stand within Redcar Racecourse and where you see the Non-Smoking signs. The use of e-cigarettes indoors is also prohibited.
 
Smoking is permitted in outside areas. Those partaking of tobacco products are requested to use the smoking receptacles provided.

Transfers & Upgrades

The facility to transfer from the Course Enclosure to the Grandstand is available on all race days.

Grandstand ticket holders may use both enclosures.

Tickets - E-Tickets, Delivery, Collection, Lost or Stolen

E-Tickets

E-Tickets are admission tickets that are delivered electronically to your email address. 

If you can access your emails from your mobile device there is no need to print off your e-ticket. To gain access to the racecourse on the day please go to a Pre-Paid Entry turnstile and simply present the e-ticket on your mobile device to be scanned.

If you have purchased a Racegoer Package you will receive your admission ticket as an e-ticket and your refreshment vouchers will be sent by post approximately 2 weeks prior to the raceday, or left for collection on the day if purchased within 5 working days of the raceday.

E-tickets are not available for the Crow's Nest Restaurant - your VIP admission badges will be sent by post approximately 2 weeks prior to the raceday, or left for collection on the day if purchased within 5 working days of the raceday.
 

Tickets by Post

If you would prefer to receive your admission tickets by post please select the "postal" option.  Your admission tickets will sent by post approximately 1 week prior to the raceday.

 

Ticket Collection

During the COVID-19 pandemic we are not able to offer a ticket collection service.

 

Lost or stolen badges or tickets

Unfortunately, Redcar Racecourse can take no responsibility for lost or stolen badges.  They cannot be replaced.

WIFI

We are delighted to be able offer all racegoers access to free wi-fi during your visit. 

  1. First access your wifi settings on your device and select the 'Redcar Free Wifi' option
  2. Once your are connected you will recieve a popup redirecting you to our dedicated free wifi login page
  3. Login via social media for quick access, or use your email address to access the wifi
  4. Once you're logged in, you're free to roam!
