ROOFER Carl Brunskill's transformation into Popeye made him the winner of Redcar's adult fancy-dress competition on Caribbean Carnival Day.
Carl, from Middlesbrough, said: "It's all down to the spinach I had for breakfast. Olive's gonna be chuffed to bits!"
It was Carl’s 44th birthday today and he chose to spend it at Redcar. It was wife Louise, who came dressed as Madonna, who talked him entering the contest as Popeye.
“This sort of thing isn’t really me – I’m normally quite shy,” he added.
Carl won a hamper plus four grandstand tickets to a future Redcar meeting.
The junior fancy-dress winner was the gorgeous pirate Ava Oxley, 4, from Eston. Ava won a sweetie bouquet and all the finalists all received sweetie prizes.
