REDCAR is known for attracting course specialists and they are out in force as the seaside track stages an eight-race card on Wednesday (September 9).

Peter Niven’s Hurstwood (pictured) was scoring his fourth career win at Redcar at the last meeting when he stormed up the stands rail under Billy Garritty at rewarding odds of 20-1.

The nine-year-old is back for more in the Visit racingtv.com Handicap and, despite going up 8lbs, his liking for the track makes him a strong contender again, with Mark Winn taking over from Garritty in the saddle.

The Roger Fell-trained Woodleigh (pictured below) secured his third course and distance victory on the same evening card on August 22 and returns under Oisin McSweeney in the Constant Security Services Handicap (Division 1). Among his rivals is Mark Walford’s Bay Dream Believer, who was within a length when third that day and is a pound better off.

David O’Meara’s veteran Pisanello (pictured below) is yet another with a strong track record at Redcar. He racked up a hat-trick in July and August, with two of the wins coming at Redcar, and he’s clearly in great form.

He’s back at Redcar in the biggest field of the day, the Watch Race Replays On Racing TV Handicap, with Conor Whitely claiming a useful five pounds.

Tim Easterby’s Sweet Kiss was beaten by a nose by Cosmos Raj at Redcar’s last meeting. The first-time cheekpieces worn that day are retained for the Constant Security Services Handicap (Division 2) and the ever-reliable David Allan is in the saddle.

Middleham trainer Charlie Johnston looks ready to rumble with Thunder Wonder in the racingtv.com/freetrial Handicap.

The chestnut son of 2014 Two Thousand Guineas winner Night of Thunder was an eye-catching fifth in a competitive handicap at Glorious Goodwood last time out, finishing well over a mile and a furlong despite stumbling at the start.

With another furlong to travel this time, the gelding must have a good chance off the same mark, with Callum Shepherd in the saddle.

Another chestnut son of Night of Thunder, Al Jolson, looks hard to beat for the powerful yard of Simon and Ed Crisford in the Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Maiden Stakes.

He was well clear of the rest when a close second to Karl Burke’s odds-on favourite Prosperity on his debut at Southwell last month. Al Jolson looks the banker of the day if he’s on song under Harry Davies.

Redcar’s midweek card starts at 1.21pm with the Racing TV Free Trial Now EBF Novice Stakes for two-year-olds. Richard Fahey’s grey filly, Kirton Angel, shaped well when third on her debut at York in July and is sure to have come on for the experience, with Cam Hardie in the saddle.

Luminous Warrior was only headed in the final strides on his first run for Lancashire trainer Chris Kellett at Musselburgh two weeks ago, having scored back-to-back wins for Dylan Cunha. The Kingman gelding is clearly in good heart and should go close again under Jason Hart in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap.
