CHAMPION jockey contender Tom Marquand is the star turn at Redcar’s third meeting of the season tomorrow (Thursday April 28).

Marquand, second favourite behind William Buick to lift the 2022 title, swaps Ascot today for the North-East coast tomorrow.

And the pick of his rides looks to be Sense of Duty, the only runner on the card for crack Newmarket trainer William Haggas, in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

The Showcasing filly showed plenty of promise as a two-year-old, following a debut second at Newmarket with a five-lengths victory over six furlongs at Newbury. She should be hard to beat as she embarks on her three-year-old campaign.

Redcar’s seven-race card gets underway at 1.40pm with the Racing TV Club Day Here Today Claiming Stakes and it looks like a good opportunity for seven-pounds claimer Mark Winn, who again gets the leg up on David O’Meara’s Mythical Madness.

The Dubawi gelding has been busy on the all-weather, running seven times in 2022, culminating in an impressive victory under the apprentice at Lingfield. He finished strongly over a mile that day, suggesting the extra two furlongs will be ideal for another Winn win.

Jockey Dylan Hogan rode out his claim at Redcar last August (see picture below) and he returns to the track for a single ride on Michael Bell’s Newmarket raider Pub Crawl in the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap.

Pub Crawl is another who has been finishing strongly in his most recent starts to finish second over seven furlongs and an extended mile at Leicester and Epsom, so it may well be time to get the beers in now he tackles a mile and a quarter.

Tim Easterby’s Zimmerman only just got collared by Jedd O’Keeffe’s Hilts at the opening Redcar meeting and  the Poet’s Voice gelding should give Bob Dylan fans another good for their money.

Newmarket will be well fancied to strike again with Alice Haynes’ Comedian Leader in the Join Racing TV Half Price Now Selling Stakes. The Aclaim filly has shown fair form in two starts at Kempton and Pontefract and Oisin McSweeney takes off a handy five pounds.

Jason Watson has been a regular visitor to Redcar recently and he comes back up for a single ride on David O’Meara’s Liangel Hope in the Join Racing TV For Half Price Restricted Novice Stakes. The Last Lion gelding has concentrated mainly on the all-weather, finishing runner-up at Southwell last time. However, he ran well enough to be fifth behind Michael Dods’ well-regarded Chiellini on his only run on turf at Pontefract.

Tim Easterby’s Jungley was noted getting the hang of things that day after being slow out of the stalls and could come on for the experience with an extra furlong to travel.

Trainer Kevin Philippart De Foy (pictured below) has enjoyed some fruitful raids on Redcar from his Newmarket base and he’s back with a strong contender in Baileysgutfeeling in the Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Handicap. The Gutaifan colt ran consistently as a two-year-old, winning at Brighton on his penultimate start.

He will be a touch nut to crack under Daniel Muscutt but Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan will be hopeful that Monsieur Jumbo can build on his win at Newcastle last month.

Talented seven-pound claimer Ryan Sexton bagged a winner on Scottish raider Pallas Lord (pictured below) at Redcar’s opening meeting of the season, and he has an excellent chance of returning to the winner’s enclosure in the final race of the day, the Watch Race Replays At racingtv.com Handicap.

He’s back on board Ha Long Bay for Malton handler Adrian Keatley and the topweight can score a quick-fire double after winning at Catterick last week.
