FLUORESCENCE shone brightly at Redcar today and now has a date at the big York Ebor Festival later this month.
Ed Bethell’s classy three-year-old filly won impressively at Redcar back in May and, following decent placed efforts at Ripon and Southwell, she returned to the seaside track to cosily land the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap in the confident hands of Oisin Orr.
The Middleham trainer revealed that the Twilight son filly is now bound for a fillies-only handicap at the York Ebor Festival, adding: “This race was to bring her forward for York. She's a fast and talented filly."
Racegoers on Caribbean Carnival Day at Redcar may have seen another promising young horse in the form of Monsieur Bondy in the opening Market Cross Jewellers Maiden Stakes.
The imposing chestnut son of Mehmas is far from the finished article but stayed on well under a strong PJ McDonald drive to overcome the challenge of Dylan Cunha’s Valley of the Kings.
Veteran North Yorkshire trainer Geoff Oldroyd said: “He's still immature but he'll be a really nice horse in six months. PJ said he hated the ground, so he'll be better with some give. We'll give him a bit of time now, but I think we've got a nice horse to look forward to.”
The wily Oldroyd has had two runners and two winners at Redcar this season, following Big Leader’s victory in May.
There was more success for North Yorkshire in the following Celebrate The Life of Ann Allport Handicap when Tim Easterby trained the first and third with Marry The Night and Tootsie respectively.
Harry Russell brought Marry The Night with a well-timed run to collar PJ McDonald on runner-up Ribston Pippin inside the final 110 yards.
Assistant trainer Emily Roberts, Easterby’s daughter, said: "I'm delighted to see them both run so well and Marry The Night did it well. I'm thrilled for the owners, Dubelem Racing."
North Yorkshire’s dominance continued in the Marske Fabrications & Engineering Straight Mile Handicap when Paladin, trained at Middleham by Charlie Johnston, stayed on gamely to outlast Sam England’s Mister Mistoffelees.
Paladin relished the fast ground with winning jockey Oliver Stammers saying: "It was a case of keeping it simple and he was really tough, putting his head down where it mattered."
It was Thirsk’s turn in the Derek Saul Form Follower Supreme Classified Stakes when Doralee, trained by David and Nicola Barron, and ridden by three-pound claimer William Pyle, never looked like being caught by Michael Dods’ Sanbona in second.
Doralee was bouncing back from a disappointing run at Catterick, with Nicola saying: "We took the blinkers off, she likes this track, and good fast ground made the difference.”
The much-travelled Luke Morris made his latest trip to Redcar pay off when Spectacular Style, trained in Worcestershire by Ian Williams, made the most of a step up to one mile six furlongs to beat the staying on Billy Bathgate in the concluding Watch Race Replays On racingtv.com Handicap.
