POPULAR rider Joanna Mason finished Redcar’s 2026 season in style today by riding a family double in the last two races of the year.
The ever-smiling rider struck on Big Apple Jack and Beauty Choice for her grandfather Mick Easterby and uncle David Easterby, who share the training licence at Sheriff Hutton, in North Yorkshire.
Big Apple Jack proved to be the pick of the bunch, just holding off Hares Bredth in a close finish to the penultimate race of Redcar’s season, the Thanks and See You Next Season Handicap (Division One).
The thrilling finish was a battle of the Easterbys, with the runner-up trained by Tim Easterby.
Mason said: "He travelled strongly but only does just enough in front."

The rider then finished Redcar’s season with a flourish as Beauty Choice made it a quick-fire double in the Thanks and See You Next Season Handicap (Division Two).
She said: "Beauty Choice loves the ground and ran a brilliant race. Not a bad day at all!"

Favourite Night Emperor, trained by Tina Jackson at Loftus, ran a belter to be beaten a head in second.
Star trainer Andrew Balding and jockey PJ McDonald also scored doubles as Redcar closed its season with a mud-splattered eight-race card.
The first leg of the brace came in the in the famous Juddmonte colours as Caldo stayed on well in the heavy going to land the EBF 'Double Trigger' Novice Stakes.

"He's still a big baby and will improve plenty for that. He loved the ground and stayed really well," said the winning rider.
Charmed Boy, trained by Hugo Palmer, was second, with odds-on favourite Iron Stone lad fading out of the places.
The Balding-McDonald double came in the Wear Your Poppy With Pride Novice Stakes as Merci Monsieur surged clear despite a 13-month lay-off since his last run.

The Resdev Tyke, trained by Mick and David Easterby and ridden by Joanna Mason, plugged on well to be second but had no chance with the winner.
Top rider James Doyle made the long trip north worthwhile when Procyon, trained at Newmarket by William Haggas and owned by Wathnan Racing, put up a commanding performance in the opening racingtv.com/freetrial British EBF Novice Stakes.

"He clearly has a nice engine and should be a fun horse next year," said the winning rider. "He went through the race nicely and will have learned a lot from that experience today. There's, hopefully, lots more to come."
There was a decent performance in the soft going from Charlie Johnston’s Olympiacos in second, with the Karl Burke-trained favourite Arctic Force in third.
The heavy going proved to be the key for Kartini as the grey filly stayed on well to land the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap for Yorkshire trainer Simon Whitaker and jockey Paul Mulrennan.

"It's been finding the key to her, and she's been really unlucky, but she loves this ground," said the trainer, who is based at Scarcroft, near Leeds.
Dandy's Angel, trained at Malton by veteran John Wainright, was a creditable second.
Naepoint took advantage of a reduced mark to land The Jumps Looks Better On Racing TV Handicap for Malton trainer Richard Fahey.

Ridden by Oisin Orr, the gelding just held off David O'Meara's fast-finishing Redcar specialist Rajapour.
Orr said: "He has a willing attitude and seems to suit the ground," adding that the horse could be turned out again at Doncaster next week.
The Roger Fell-trained Kiss Me My Love landed a third Redcar win of the season in the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme Saves Lives Selling Handicap.

The filly, bought out of the Charlie Johnston yard last year, relished the heavy ground under a confident Kevin Stott ride.
The winning trainer said: "The track here is one of the best and fairest in the country and she clearly loves it."
Despite her consistent record, there was no bid at the auction for the Invincible Spirit filly.
