Hollie makes a welcome return to Redcar
03/05/23

HOLLIE Doyle makes a welcome return to Redcar tomorrow with four rides, including three for County Durham trainer Rebecca Menzies.

Menzies, who trains at Sedgefield, has her string in good heart, with 40 wins during the National Hunt season and a dozen winners on the Flat so far this year.

Doyle’s first ride for Menzies comes in the opening Every Race Live On Racing TV Fillies’ Novice Stakes on Aclaim To Fame, a promising fourth on her debut at Thirsk last month.

However, fellow County Durham trainer Michael Dods’ season is starting to get going and he looks a threat with Destined, who did well to be placed on both starts as a two-year-old.

John Quinn’s Bloomin Robbery and Ed Walker’s Just A Notion– fillies that both cost 120,000 guineas-plus as yearlings – are debutantes to note.

Doyle and Menzies next team up with King Carney in the Follow Racing TV On Twitter Selling Handicap. A scorer at Newcastle in February before disappointing last time, he may well bounce back in this lower grade.

The Doyle-Menzies combination finish off with Rajmeister in the Racing TV Club Day Here Today Handicap. The gelding was beaten by a nose over the course and distance by Impressor on April 10 and Philip Makin’s charge is weighted to confirm superiority. However, both may have to give way to Roger Fell’s in-form Dapper Man, who followed up a Southwell win with a decent second at Catterick last week.

Doyle’s other mount is aboard Andrew Balding’s Berkshire raider Ribal in the Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap. The Roaring Lion colt made a promising reappearance when second in a Doncaster maiden at the start of April, when again ridden by Doyle. There are plenty of dangers in a tricky affair, including Newmarket raiders Roaring Legend and Razoni, trained by James Ferguson and George Boughey respectively.

Boughey’s Concorde was at the centre of a major controversy last month when Pat Cosgrave eased up close home and was caught in the shadow of the post at Chelmsford, leading to a public apology from the jockey.

However, the handsome son of Sixties Icon made no mistake at Pontefract last time, winning by 10 lengths. He was also a winner at Redcar before the Chelmsford debacle and will be a warm order to keep progressing in the SDDE Smith Supporting Middlesbrough FC Foundation Handicap under Ben Curtis, who was in the saddle for his Pontefract and Redcar victories.

The Kevin Ryan-trained Camacho Star was the horse that finished a distant second to Concorde at Pontefract. He’d won a competitive handicap at Redcar on his previous outing and he’s unlikely to face anything of Concorde’s calibre in the Watch Race Replays At racingtv.com Handicap.

Middleham’s Ed Bethell is having a productive season with a dozen winners so far, and he will fancy his chances with Indiana Be in the Join Racing TV Restricted Novice Stakes. Despite being off the track for seven months, the gelding finished second of nine at Southwell last month, showing enough to think that this may be his opportunity to break his duck.
