NORTH Yorkshire trainer Tim Easterby and jockey David Allan agree that King of Persia is a nice horse to look forward to after his first win at Redcar today.

The son of Bated Breath relished the step up to a mile and dominated the opening Happy Birthday Mark Holton Nursery Handicap.

The juvenile is owned by Reality Partnerships, and Allan said: "They should have a lot of fun with him next year – he's a lovely big horse and he'll improve a lot."

Malton trainer Easterby added: "He ran a decent race last time at Leicester over seven furlongs but couldn't get himself organised. Today, David let him stride on and he's a nice horse to look forward to."

The plan before the race was for the colt to be put away for the winter but he may now be turned out again this season.

Richard Hannon's Son of a Fish finished well to be second despite showing a lot of greenness.

Flower of Youmzain blossomed and showed a fine turn of foot to win the Weatherbys Stallion Book Nursery Handicap for Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan and jockey Kevin Stott.

Stott said: "She was a bit unlucky last time out, and we went plenty quick today. When I pressed the button, she found a lot very quickly."

Assistant trainer Amy Ryan added: "She's progressing nicely and there's, hopefully, more to come. She should develop from two to three."

Wondervision, trained in Berkshire by Jack Channon, was second.

"He feels like a proper horse," said jockey Paul Mulrennan after Golden Souk's impressive debut win for Leyburn trainer Karl Burke in the British EBF Supports Racing To School Future Stayers Novice Stakes.

Golden Souk is by legendary sire Dubawi and runs in the colours of the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid.

The winning rider added: "He's got a real good attitude and he'll improve a lot. Karl said he had a turn of foot and whatever he does this year is a bonus."

Julie Camacho's Beyond Question ran a promise race on his debut to be second.

Lady Vega came from last to first to land the weatherbysshop.co.uk Novice Stakes under a cracking Joanna Mason ride.

The filly is trained at Northallerton by Gemma Tutty and owned by Paul Hay and Neville Rogers.

Paul, from Gateshead, is CEO of the UK Lift & Escalator Company - and his filly is clearly on the up!

The winning rider said: "Gemma told me to take my time, and she's come through well, and run right to the line. She's a really game filly – they've got a nice horse on their hands."

It's a happy anniversary because the daughter of Lucky Vega was bought two years ago today.

Joanna rode Paul and Neville's first horse, Elsie's Ruan, at York back in 2024.

There was a win for Newmarket as Rizal, trained by George Scott and ridden by Darragh Keenan, stayed on strongly to hold off Michael Herrington's Optician in the Weatherbys & Birdie Calendars Handicap.

The last two races of the day went to veteran Malton trainer Nigel Tinkler. Sergeant Mayer, ridden by Alex Jary, secured a hat-trick in The racingtv/freetrial Handicap, always doing enough to deny Joanna Mason a double on Emperor’s Son.

Tinkler’s double came in the finale, the AJA Novice Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap, when Soul Warrior, ridden by Tilly Evans, kept on well to beat Nicky Richards’ Pedro The Poet.
