More than £1,500 worth of glittering prizes up for grabs as Ladies' Night makes a stylish return

MORE than £1,500 worth of glittering prizes will be up for grabs as all the glamour of Ladies’ Night returns to Redcar Races this weekend.

After the frustrations of lockdown, the evening meeting this Saturday (August 28) is a long-awaited chance for ladies to dress up, spoil themselves rotten, and enjoy a sparkling night out.

The popular seaside track traditionally stages Ladies’ Day in June but it couldn’t be held in 2020, or earlier this year, due to the ongoing restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.

But, following the carefully managed, step-by-step return of spectators, Redcar is now in a position to give ladies the chance to enjoy an evening of summer fashions.

Redcar’s general manager Amy Fair said: “We know how much the ladies of this area love to dress up, and we’ve really missed being able to stage Ladies’ Day for such a long time, so it’s great to be back in style.

“Ladies’ Day is always a special occasion but, with people having been through such a tough time over the past 18 months, we’re sure it will feel like a bigger treat than ever.”

Regular Ladies’ Day sponsors have again come up trumps with prizes for the fashion competitions:

1st place: Gucci Necklace, Swarovski Bracelet, plus £100 Market Cross Jewellers voiucher, and Betty Leigh Boutique voucher, adding up to £600 worth of prizes.

2nd place: Ladies’ Boss Watch from Market Cross Jewellers.

3rd place: Boss Bracelet from Market Cross Jewellers.

1st place: Lynne Young Millinery hat, Silver & Co Set, plus a £50 Market Cross Jewellers voucher.

There will also be a flower basket for the best dressed lady and the winner of the best hat competition.

Gentlemen and children are also welcome – under-18s are admitted free – and a local band, The Firebeats, will be entertaining racegoers in the Grandstand Enclosure.

Gates open at 2.40pm, with the first race due to start at 4.40pm.

Best-dressed lady in 2019 was Kayleigh Imiela, of Middlesbrough (pictured below) while Tracey Raw, of Redcar (also pictured below) won the Best Hat contest. The main picture shows the 2019 Best Dressed Lady finalists.
