More prizes than ever up for grabs on Ladies’ Day at Redcar
01/06/23

LADIES’ Day at Redcar Racecourse promises to be more glamorous than ever this year with fabulous prizes on offer from established sponsors – plus a holiday break from a new partner.

As well as a day of action-packed racing, Redcar will be staging the fashion stakes for Ladies’ Day on Saturday, June 24, as part of Go Racing In Yorkshire’s Best Dressed Series, involving nine courses.

Market Cross Jewellers will again be providing glittering prizes from their stores for the Best Dressed Lady and Best Hat competitions, and they will be supported by Lynne Young Milliner and Orange Kerr Hair and Beauty.

Betty Leigh Boutique will also be staging a fashion show after the second race, with clothes from their Redcar store on display, along with the latest hat designs from Redcar-based Lynne Young.

Television personality Pam Royle will be returning as one of the judges for the Best Dressed Lady and the Best Hat competitions.

That’s all exciting enough but Host & Stay – part of the SDDE Smith Group – is also offering the Best Dressed Lady a week-long stay in one of their luxury cottages. The SDDE Smith Group has become a key partner at Redcar this year as sponsors of the Straight Mile Series.

Independent bookmakers, Vickers Bet, will also be a first-time sponsor at Redcar on Ladies’ Day, with their brand featuring in the names of five races. The company will also be a sponsor on Caribbean Carnival Day on August 12.

Last year's Best Dressed Lady was pharmacy technician Lesley Maude (pictured below).

The Best Hat contest was won by Kirsty Smith of Middlesbrough (pictured below).

Redcar’s general manager, Amy Fair, said: “We know how much the people of this area love to dress up, and Ladies’ Day is the perfect excuse to do just that.

“We are always grateful for the support we receive from our long-term Ladies’ Day sponsors – Market Cross Jewellers, Lynne Young Milliner, Orange Kerr and Beauty and Betty Leigh Boutiuque – and we are thrilled that Host & Stay are adding to the prizes on offer with a relaxing break at one of their lovely cottages.

“Introducing Vickers Bet as another new sponsor adds to the excitement, so we really can’t wait for June 24 to arrive in all its glamorous glory!”

The Go Racing In Yorkshire Best Dressed Series starts at Wetherby’s evening meeting on Tuesday, June 13, and finishes at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting in September. Each of the heat winners – including Redcar’s Best Dressed Lady – will go forward to the Go Racing In Yorkshire Best Dressed Final, which will be decided by a public vote.

Last year's winner was Katie Newsam, of Barnsley (pictured below).

Best Dressed Fixture in full: Wetherby (evening) – June 13; Ripon – June 22; Redcar – June 24; Pontefract – August 9; Beverley – August 16; York – August 24; Catterick – August 30; Thirsk – September 9; Doncaster – September 14; Final voting – October 6.
