JOCKEY Oisin Orr was in swashbuckling form on Caribbean Carnival Day at Redcar with a hat-trick of winners.
On the day the seaside course welcomed fancy dress pirates, Orr plundered the booty with victories on Raggaas, Welbury and Newport.
His most impressive win came on the improving grey three-year-old Welbury, a seven lengths winner of the Marske Fabrications and Engineering Straight Mile Handicap for Middleham trainer Ed Bethell (see main picture)
Welbury’s facile win brought back happy memories for owner, North Yorkshire fish merchant John Carrick, who won the 2017 Zetland Gold Cup in the same colours with Briardale. Trained by Ed’s father, James, Briardale romped home by six lengths that day.
"We have some very nice memories of Redcar, and we're delighted with today's win," said Mr Carrick. "Mind you, the handicapper might have something to say now!"
Mr Carrick, who lives in Bedale and owns Carrick's Fish Ltd – a business started by his father 98 years ago – owns half of Welbury in partnership with Clarendon Racing.
Oisin Orr added: "Welbury has a good look round when he gets to the front, so you have to keep him up to his work. He usually only wins by the bare minimum!"

The jockey got off the mark in the opening Watch Racing TV In Stunning HD Maiden Stakes when Raggaas, trained at Newmarket by Simon & Ed Crisford, stoutly denied odds-on favourite Yimmna, from the William Haggas yard.
"We were able to jump and take a lead from the favourite. He picked up well and has done it nicely," said the winning rider.

Orr’s hat-trick was sealed on dual-purpose horse, Newport, who outstayed favourite Dubai Venture in the Remembering Christine and Colin Brown Handicap.
Trained in the Scottish borders by Iain Jardine and owned by Ursa Major Racing, the six-year-old was landing his third career win and first on the flat.
"He's really genuine and always just does enough - he's a superstar," said Ursa Major assistant manager Craig Wilson.

The training honours were taken by Staffordshire handler Jennie Candlish, who scored a double with Rosenpur and recent Glorious Goodwood winner French Affair.
The target for French Affair is likely to be the Ayr Silver Cup after his victory in the Watch Race Replays On Racing TV Handicap.
Sean Dylan Bowen managed to weave his way through from a difficult position to catch market rival Space Bear close home.
Assistant trainer Alan O'Keefe said: "Jennie's got the horses in unbelievable form and we were confident we'd have winners coming here today.
"He was the class horse in the race but he's done well to get there from where he was. He probably won't get into the Ayr Gold Cup but the Silver Cup looks like something to aim for."

Rosenpur’s victory in The Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap was the finish of the day – edging a four-way photo with Fidelius, Spring Is Sprung, and Sports Coach all within inches of each other.
Winning jockey Darragh Keenan said: "He battled today and was really tough. I managed to get a breather into him and that enabled him to finish the race well."

Saxon Grace comfortably landed the Celebrate The Life of Ann Allport Handicap for Lockerbie trainer Daragh Bourke and jockey Shane Gray.
However, owner Jamie Macleod didn't see his horse win despite making the long trip to Redcar. "I was too nervous to watch!" said Jamie, who owns a motors business.
Delighted trainer Bourke said the chestnut filly is likely to aim to follow up at Beverley next Thursday.

Doralee, trained by David and Nicola Barron at Thirsk and ridden by David Nolan, won the Market Cross Jewellers Classified Stakes for the second year running, staying on well to hold off Ellie’s De Vega.
"We're creatures of habit and we've taken the same route as last year," said Nicola.
