REDCAR has come near the top of national survey judging which racecourses provide the best value for money.
The Racing Post has published its Racecourse Prices Index for 2025, assessing the cost of going racing at tracks across Britain and Ireland.
And Redcar has come second to Newbury, with York in third place and Thirsk in fourth.
Northern tracks accounted for 70 per cent of the top ten, with Pontefract in sixth and Beverley in ninth.
The ranking for all UK racecourses takes into account the price of entry tickets, plus food and drink, proximity to public transport, and entertainment value.
Redcar recorded a cracking score of 80.1 out of 100, compared to Newbury’s 80.7. If it had been a photo-finish, Newbury would have won by a nose!
And there was further cause for racegoers to relish a trip to Redcar with the seaside track coming out top in the race for the cheapest burger at £6.
Redcar’s general manager Amy Fair said: “We work really hard to keep prices as low as possible for racegoers, so we’re delighted to have been placed a close second in this important national survey.
“The clear message is that coming racing at Redcar is great value for money compared to the rest of the UK – especially if you’re partial to a burger!”
