JENNIE Candlish had a day to remember at Redcar last October when a double included the prestigious Marske Fabrications & Engineering Straight-Mile Final with Debora's Dream.

And the Staffordshire trainer will be hopeful of more Redcar success on Saturday when she sends recent Glorious Goodwood winner French Affair on the long trip north to the seaside track for Caribbean Carnival Day.

French Affair was a 14-1 winner for jockeys’ championship leader Billy Loughnane in the Coral Charlton Handicap at Goodwood and the gelding looks to have a great chance of following up at Redcar in the Watch Race Replays On Racing TV Handicap.

This time ridden by 2024 champion apprentice, Sean D. Bowen, French Affair has to defy topweight but a repeat of that Goodwood form should be good enough.

Democracy Dilemma, trained at Newmarket by Robert Cowell, was another to run a fine race at Glorious Goodwood, dead-heating for fourth in the 23-runner Coral Rewards Shaker Handicap. Tom Eaves retains the ride in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap at Redcar and Democracy Dilemma gets the vote.

Cieren Fallon, fresh from a Group 2 win on Lake Forest for Newmarket trainer William Haggas at Glorious Goodwood, is fourth in the jockeys’ championship table and will have to go some to catch Billy Loughnane.

However, the powerful Haggas yard should get him off to a good start at Redcar with Yimmna in opening Watch Racing In Stunning HD Maiden Stakes.

The daughter of Siyouni has only had two starts, finishing a decent second to a Gosden odds-on favourite in a three-horse race at Newmarket last time, and Haggas likes sending horses to Redcar as part of the learning process.

Fallon has picked up plenty of rides throughout the rest of the seven-race card, with the pick looking to be Ellie De Vega for North Yorkshire trainer Phil Kirby in the Market Cross Jewellers Classified Stakes.

The chestnut gelding has had lots of placed finishes, including finishing second at Newcastle last time, and this could be his opportunity.

Park Lane Penny, trained by Ivan Furtado, was a short-head in front of Roger Fell’s Here Comes Louie when they were first and second over a mile at Thirsk last time out. However, the runner-up was denied a clear run inside the final furlong and looked an unlucky loser.

The pair clash again in the Celebrate The Life of Ann Allport Handicap and it would be no surprise to see them fight out the finish again, with Tom Eaves aboard Park Lane Penny and Joanna Mason riding Here Comes Louie.

Middleham’s Ed Bethell is enjoying another fine season and he saddles Welbury, a winner at Pontefract last time, in the Markse Fabrications & Engineering Straight Mile Handicap. The grey gelding looks capable of defying a penalty under Oisin Orr.

Billy Bathgate, trained in the Scottish borders by Ewan Whillans, enjoyed the step up to two miles to win at the last Redcar meeting and the 10-year-old looks to defy a penalty over two furlongs less in the Remembering Christine and Colin Brown Handicap with David Nolan in the saddle.
