Redcar Racecourse Coronavirus Statement 16/04
16/04/20

The information below is correct at 9am on Thursday 16th April, and will be updated as and when further information is available and/or updated advice is received.

Update on the status of 2020 Race Fixtures for April & May

For public health and safety reasons all the race meetings scheduled to take place at Redcar Racecourse in April have already been cancelled and, following a further announcement from the British Horseracing Authority on the evening of 15/04/20, we now know that all those fixtures scheduled for May 2020 will not be able to take place as open events with public admission, if indeed they will be permitted to take place at all.  You can read the BHA’s statement in full here.

Customers who have already paid for entry, racing packages and hospitality at Redcar’s April and May meetings (if they have not already received a refund) will be refunded in full as quickly as possible. You do not need to take any further action unless contacted directly by us.  If, however, you wish to transfer your booking to a later date please do not hesitate to get in touch forthwith at:  info@redcarracing.co.uk

Like many other businesses, Redcar is running a ‘skeleton’ staff and operation and so we thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding in completing this task given the challenging practical circumstances of the current national lockdown. Please allow 28-days for refunds to be processed.

Redcar Annual badge holders will be contacted in due course, once the full extent of the season’s cancellations is clear, with compensation options accordingly.

All of our thoughts remain with those grieving and suffering as a result of COVID-19 and we offer a sincere thanks to the country’s incredible NHS staff, key workers and volunteers for their selfless dedication and hard work at this time of national emergency.

It may prove possible to run racing at Redcar ‘behind closed doors’ in due course, depending upon Government public health policy and the approval of the British Horseracing Authority, before normal race meetings to which the public may be admitted also resume.  If so, this shall be done by Redcar Racecoourse for the benefit of our industry’s horsemen, our partners, our suppliers and our television audiences.

Further updates will follow in due course, particularly for those race meetings presently scheduled in June and onwards. We do of course look forward to being able to offer Redcar’s racegoers a huge welcome back, but only when it is safe to do so.

When will the racing take place again?

Whilst racing may be permitted to take place at some stage in May this would be 'behind closed doors' without any public admission. We will be sharing the latest official updates on our fixtures through our website and social channels as soon as they are available. Therefore, racing with public admission can not be considered before June at the earliest.

What if I have already purchased raceday admission tickets or packages?

All bookings for raceday tickets and badges in April and May that were made through the Redcar Racecourse website or over the phone with the Racecourse team, or via the post to the Racecourse office are being refunded unless you contact us directly to switch your booking to a fixture later in the 2020 season.

Please note that we are operating a 'skeleton staff' and once processed the refunds are presently taking up to several working days to return into your bank account through the banking system. Please therefore allow up to 28-days for the whole refund process to complete.

Website bookings will be automatically refunded and all other customers who have booked over the phone or by post will be contacted directly by us to arrange their refunds.

Any customers who have purchased Redcar tickets or hospitality through a third party should contact that individual or organisation for a refund.

What if I have a restaurant booking or have a private hospitality box in April or May?

All pre-paid sponsorship, hospitality or restaurant bookings will be refunded (as above) unless we are instructed to move your booking to another date.

What will happen if I’m an annual badge holder?

We will be reviewing annual badge holder compensation when we know the full extent of the affected 2020 race meetings. In the meantime we thank you for your patience and understanding.

Non-racing conferences, rallies and other events

No public events are permitted during the Government's lockdown period. If you have an event booked at Redcar Racecourse please liaise with us directly over cancellation, refunds and/or re-booking. In the first instance please email:  info@redcarracing.co.uk
