ROWAN Scott’s profile was given a major boost when he was signed up late last year by high-flying Amo Racing on a retainer until the end of the 2026 season.
And the reliable rider can continue the burgeoning partnership when he rides Fierce Fortitude in the Racing TV Free Trial Handicap at Redcar tomorrow (THURSDAY, APRIL 30).
The 145,000 euros yearling, trained at Newmarket by Kevin Philippart De Foy, won a Brighton novice on his last run of 2025, and improved again when runner-up on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton in March. He looks like a horse going in the right direction and will be well fancied to win again back on turf.
Ed Bethell won this race with the ultra-consistent See That Storm last year when the gelding was racking up a four-timer. The Middleham trainer has his string in fine form and the danger to Fierce Fortitude could be James McHenry.
Second to Liberty Lane in the 2024 Cambridgeshire, the grey only ran once in 2025 when something clearly wasn’t right. He looks to be working his way back to form this year and a repeat of that Cambridgeshire run would see him back in the winner’s enclosure under Callum Rodriguez.
Rowan Scott has another big chance for a high-profile yard when he rides Egotistical for Roger Varian in the Start Racing TV Free Trial Now Fillies’ Novice Stakes. The daughter of Acclamation has shown promise in all three runs and showed a good attitude when a game third at Nottingham last time.
It could also be a good day for PJ McDonald who starts the day on Karakula Dancer for Newmarket trainer James Ferguson in the opening Racing TV Club Day Here Today Handicap. The gelding has been a model of consistency in six runs on the all-weather since the turn of the year, winning three times, and he should be a leading contender if that form translates onto turf.
Whatever happens in the first race, McDonald looks to have the last race – the Watch Race Replays At racingtv.com Handicap – at his mercy on Andrew Balding’s King of Berkshire. The son of Derby winner Camelot was clear of the rest when a shorthead second at Yarmouth last week and is expected to go one better.
The Join Racing TV Restricted Novice Stakes May only have four runners but it’s a tricky affair. Lemos De Souza’s Newmarket raider Hungarian was a highly promising fourth of 26 in a sales race at headquarters in October but has been off the course since.
Preference is for Ed Bethell’s Whernside, who was an eye-catching second behind a stablemate at Newcastle earlier this month. The Lope Y Fernandez gelding will have race fitness on his side under Callum Rodriguez.
The father and son team of John and Sean Quinn look to have the answer to the Racing Tv Profits Returned To Racing Handicap in the form of Beerwah. The Mehmas gelding was staying on well when second at Doncaster last week and can get his head in front under Jason Hart.
Each-way backers may be tempted by Michael Dods’ Zuffolo. A winner at Redcar off a mark of 65 in the autumn of 2024, he’s dropped to a dangerous mark of 57 and he gets on well with talented five-pound claimed Rhys Elliott.
