RISING star Taylor Fisher can be the toast of Redcar’s popular Gin and Gents evening meeting on Saturday.

The meeting traditionally holds contests to find Redcar’s best-dressed man and couple, and Fisher has proved himself to be one of the country’s most stylish young riders.

The 18-year-old, who is on record as saying he wants to win the Derby, has already clocked up 29 wins this season, taking his claim down to 3lbs.

The former pony racing champion is the stepson of Devon trainer Joe Tickle and gained experience by schooling his national hunt horses before starting his apprenticeship with Andrew Balding. He moved on to Richard Hannon’s yard and is now with Archie Watson, where his mentor is Hollie Doyle.

He travels north to Redcar for four rides on the eight-race card, including two for Lambourn-based Watson – Propitious and Mighty Gurkha.

The two-year-old Propitious, a winner on her debut at Chepstow last month, looks hard to beat in the Bakers Tailoring EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Division 2).

Mighty Gurkha, a winner at Leicester in June before finishing third of five under a penalty at Windsor next time out, tries to bounce back under joint topweight in the racingtv.com Handicap (Division 2). He looks to have most to fear from course and distance winner Blazing Son, although Bryan Smart’s gelding has done his winning on either the all-weather or heavy going.

Fisher kicks off the evening meeting by picking up what looks like a good ride on Freak Out in the opening Every Race Live On Racing TV Apprentice Handicap for Gemma Tutty. The five-year-old clearly likes Redcar, having won twice and finished second at the track. Tarbaan, trained at Newmarket by Amy Murphy and ridden by Harry Burns, looks the chief threat after staying on to be third on his latest outing at headquarters earlier this month.

Fisher’s fourth ride comes on Clear Angel for Northumberland trainer, Susan Corbett, in the feature Host & Stay Handicap. The Dark Angel gelding won back-to-back races at Wetherby and Carlisle earlier this year and has run decent races off a higher mark at York and Thirsk since then. Crown Princess, trained at Malton by Ollie Pears, was a game winner at Redcar’s last fixture and will be fancied to follow-up. She is pictured below in the winner's enclosure below.

Visitant, trained in County Durham, by David Thompson, was another winner at Redcar’s most recent meeting and he tries his luck again in the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap, with young William Pyle taking off a useful five pounds.

Basholo, trained in Lancashire by Stella Barclay, was yet another winner at Redcar last time, and the Caravaggio filly returns under a four-pounds penalty for the Watch Race Replays On racingtv.com Handicap. Seven-pounds claimer Alex Jary retains the ride.

Newmarket trainer George Boughey sends Spanish Rock north for the Bakers Tailoring EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (Division 1). The Phoenix of Spain colt did well to finish third on his debut at Ripon earlier this month despite being slowly away. He could do better for that experience with the strong assistance of Ben Curtis.

Curtis teams up with Strong Johnson for Paul Midgley in the racingtv.com Handicap (Division 1). The seven-year-old is on a long losing streak since last winning at The Curragh in 2020. However, he put up a good performance to be third in the 17-runner William Hill Silver Trophy at Ripon last week and looks ready to finally return to the winner’s enclosure.
